FCS Software Solutions enters the complex and sophisticated arena of reverse engineering
Date: April 7, 2004
The Noida-based FCS Software Solutions Ltd has earmarked
reverse engineering as one of its high potential growth
areas. While the company has opened its reverse engineering
account with a relatively small Rs 50-lakh order in
the month of March 2004, it plans to bag a substantial
number of reverse engineering accounts during the present
financial year, ending March 31, 2005.
Reverse engineering involves the retrieval of fragile
but critical data irrespective of how it was lost. According
to Mr Dalip Kumar, MD of FCS Software Solutions Ltd:
"In today's marketplace, data is a commodity and so
it needs to be guarded carefully. When data becomes
unavailable, business processes stop. The consequences
of such a development can be well imagined.
" Today IT organizations are charged with safeguarding
their precious data. In this scenario, data recovery
has emerged as a key area in product engineering. Faced
with fragile storage systems and the strategic nature
of data, its recovery becomes crucial, especially since
the absence of a reliable or consistent disaster recovery
plan in most organizations results in losses amounting
to millions (if not billions) of dollars.
The expertise in reverse engineering will fetch FCS
tremendous indirect benefits as well. Says Mr Vineet
Narang, VP (Strategic Planning and Business Development)
at FCS, who heads the Offshore Solutions Group (OSG)
of the company: "Reverse engineering is a very complex
technology. It is something that can be done only by
highly experienced and sophisticated developers. It
is not something for the run-of-the-mill developers.
" The reverse engineering thrust will hone the FCS
ability for research/experimentation, and will also
create a large number of sophisticated development teams
that will empower the company to move up the value chain.
"When we got into e-learning, the new business helped
us excel there," explains Mr Narang. "Similarly, when
we got into product engineering services, it helped
us understand and develop adequate knowledge about product
lifecycle management. We expect reverse engineering
to act on the similar lines on our capabilities but
in a wider and far encompassing manner.
" Sound HR practices hold the key to success in reverse
engineering business. "The fact that we are into data
retrieval is a reflection on our sound HR practices,"
adds Mr Kumar. "It underlines our strong ability to
retain the best of the talent in a fun workplace ambience."
