FCS unveils FLP, a leadership program based on human(e) model of efficiency

Date: March 19, 2004

FCS Software Solutions Ltd has unveiled FCS Leadership Program (FLP), a dedicated endeavor towards integrating tight-timeline workplace with fun. The program helps corporate leaders in channeling ‘empowered freedom’ towards building the most effective model of efficiency.

“Freedom is a state of mind that motivates the human brain with an optimum level of comfort to go for excellence,” says Mr Dalip Kumar, MD of FCS Software Solutions Ltd. “Our FLP does the same. It creates a framework of ‘empowered freedom’, a freedom that creates such lush ambience that our human capital goes all out to devote itself to a two-point program: growth; and more growth.” Structured in 8 modules, FLP shows leaders the way to shaping the best working conditions enriched with a fun ambience. “These are the people who can bring ‘total comfort’ to their team members, these are the folks who can make a difference in how they treat people reporting to them,” elaborates Mr Kumar.

More specifically, FLP has been formulated to:

  • Shape a framework for impactive leadership and self-assessment
  • Empower talented executives to imbibe effective leadership skills
  • Instill clarity among the participants about the role and responsibility for personal grooming of leadership skills
  • Shatter myths about the conventional leadership methodologies
  • Impart leadership skills to optimize their impact in diverse situations
  • Enlighten participants about the effectiveness of human(e) model of efficiency as against the traditional industrial model of efficiency
  • Bring together like-minded talented leaders of today and tomorrow to help them share different perspectives to discover the most effective leadership methodology

The program is a sophisticated combination of instructor-led and online blended delivery model, assessment methodology and tools; it turns the very concept of management on its head to eliminate stress from the most demanding of delivery schedules.

Excerpts from FLP:
  1. Only criminals need close supervision: Exhorting and pushing brings close supervision. Close supervision means that your every move is defined and watched. Now, consider who else gets a close supervision. It is a criminal who has been caught and put in a prison. A prisoner needs a similar supervision as that of an employee. What an irony! By your love for supervision, by your escape from responsibility, even though born free, you are trapped in a hostile workplace.
  2. Employees often seek the comfort of a caring and competent leader. We are surrounded by a culture of entitlement. We think someone above should articulate and sustain the vision, promise a safe tomorrow. We think it is management’s job to define roles, motivate through modeling and recognition, and judge performance. Leaving aside a star performer and an extraordinary case, all credit is taken by the leaders. Such attention given to leaders has a dark side.

FLP has been developed over a period of five years. The process involved mapping the existing leadership practices in the company along with their gradual evolution and the effects of these practices on the workplace environment and corporate performance.

While at present FLP is available to the internal constituencies, it is planned to be taken to the external constituencies as well. Says Mr Rekha Sahay, Manager – Corporate Communication at FCS: “In April-May, we will unveil a program for top-level executives of the Indian corporate world, where participation will be strictly by invitation. Under this initiative, leadership support will be provided to a select batch of 12 corporate leaders.”

Participants will be encouraged to network, train, and discuss opportunities aimed at strengthening personal leadership skills and creating new avenues of collaboration. The program will also help them gain insight into each other’s work, share resources and skills, and develop critical partnerships to improve their efforts – both within their organizations as well as across the corporate spectrum.
