FCS to ride the efficacy of 'Microsoft .Net Framework' on its way to customer delight
Date: July 21, 2004
Noida (near Delhi): The Noida-based FCS Software Solutions
Ltd has bagged a large contract from one of the US market
leaders in online gaming solutions segment. The project
involves eliminating slow access speed over the web,
which occurs because of a large number of betting transactions
handled by the client's server during peak hours.
According to Mr Vineet Narang, VP (Strategic Planning
and Business Development) at FCS, who heads the Offshore
Services Group of the company: "We are deploying
Microsoft .Net Framework in this project, as it would
enable us not just to add speed but also to fortify
the client data protection; and it would also allow
us to customize the application in different languages
and currencies without any cost or time overrun."
The US gaming client has deployed applications over
200 installations across the world. The vast spread
of its operations automatically entails the usage of
different languages and currencies in different parts
of the world. "Implementing modifications in the
existing application would have required major changes
in the original architecture, which would also entail
huge investments and time," clarifies Mr Narang.
Following a careful study of the client needs, FCS
development team recommended rewriting the entire application
in the Microsoft .Net Framework that consists of three
main components: the common language runtime, a hierarchical
set of unified class libraries, and a componentized
version of Active Server Pages called ASP.Net. The framework
is a platform for building, deploying, and running mission
critical applications. It provides a highly productive,
standards-based, multi-language environment for integrating
existing investments with next-generation applications
and services as well as the agility to solve the challenges
of deployment and operation of Internet-scale applications.
"Today a large numbers of corporations have applications,
which need to be upgraded with the aid of emerging technologies,"
says Mr Narang. "The major problem with the existing
applications is that they have become standalone applications
in different programming languages within the organization
catering to specific functions. It has resulted in a
large number of restricted data boundaries and getting
one application talk to another has become a nightmare."
Organizations primarily need to have a system where
applications for all business functions can run from
a central platform. The Microsoft .NET Framework brings
precisely that usability. It supports the integration
of multiple programming languages in a way unimagined
previously, enabling developers to choose the right
programming language for the task at hand. All programming
languages target a single, extensive, and extensible
set of class libraries and are, therefore, able to integrate
with each other as never before.
"FCS has developed an expertise in migrating and
building reliable and large mission critical applications
in .Net Framework over the past few years," says
Mr Narang, "and we plan to exploit this expertise
in delivering complete customer delight."
